Weightloss Update

August 4th, 2009

Yesterday was the last day of Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. I had only lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks but I am not disappointed with that. I’m happy that things are going slowly because it will be easier for me to keep the weight off in the long run (at least I hope).

Today is the begining of Phase 2 and during this phase we can reintroduce fruits and good carbs. I was so excited to have oatmeal and strawberries for breakfast today. I missed them. During Phase 1 I didn’t exercise because when I did I would maintain or gain weight. Not sure what was going on there. I did my best not to over do it but I could never get a good balance between the food I was eating and my workout. During Phase 2 I decided to do things differently. I’m going to be going to the gym during this phase but I am only going to be walking for 30 mins everyday. I am going to do this for a whole week and try my best not to weigh myself till next Tuesday.  I just have to experiment with different types of workouts till I get the perfect balance.

I have something I want to share but I can’t!!! I have to wait for a little while before I can shared b/c I don’t want to jinx it.

Sarah read this article the other day, the gist of it was that working out means a lot less than people think for losing weight. It said that in some cases exercise can make you hungrier and you end up gaining weight.

Basically it comes down to eating less and eating higher quality food with less calories. It definitely put a different spin on things. I’ll see if I can find it.

Exercise doesn’t work if you don’t properly balance it with a good diet. Exercising increases your metabolism which burns more calories but if you are eating more than you should be you are defeating the purpose of exercising.

Eating less and better food will help you lose weight but you will be losing muscle mass. You will be thin but it will be fat and not muscle that you are carrying around.

Exercising is essential not just in weight loss but to maintain your overall health. It increases circulation, keeps your heart healthy, and keeps your arteries clean, just to name a few.
